Let's Tell a Buna Story...One I've Never Told.....Warning for 21+

In the middle 1970s, my long time girlfriend broke up with me. She did not tell me why, really, but she had found and was seeing someone else.

I did not find out until later why. I wish she had told me the truth, it would have been easier to understand at the time.

And while I was upset when it occurred, it was one of the best things ever happened to me.

For a while even though she was no longer with me, she tried to control me, tell me that she was embarrassed at who I was dating and was upset at the people I was associating with....Like that was any of her business.

But I digress...

I started dating people, and because I was in college, was able to actually find girls outside of my town to date....

One girls I met and dated for a brief period of time was from Buna.

She live in Buna itself, and if asked today, I could still find the house that she lived in....A Buna grad, she was actually about 6 months older than I was.

On our first date, we went to an very nice restaurant and went to see a move afterwards. We actually had a good time and somewhat "clicked." It was going so well, that I suggested that we go to a Lamar Basketball game on our next date. This was the time of Billy Tubbs and Pat Foster and the the men's team was the event to go to in the Golden Triangle, and the the Montagne was always packed for the ballgame.

She was excited to go and had never gone to a Lamar game before.

Her home, she lived still with her parents, was down a dark driveway and when we got there, she told me to park over near the oak tree, as to " Not wake her parents." It was near Midnight. And I halfway expected a little " Kissy-poo" before she got out of the car.

We were talking, it was dark, and next thing you know, from what I could see in the dark, she had removed her blouse and her undergarment. And said, and I am paraphrasing here....." I need to suck your pee-pee to properly thank you for the date."

I am pretty stunned and started making excuses about this is our first date, and well, I need to see you a little more, and etc.....

I'm not sure how, but she put her clothes back on and I went around, opened her door and walked her to the porch.  I just kissed her on the forehead and left.....I literally was not thinking right.

Had I not made a date with her for basketball, I would have just left and would have been never to have been seen again...

Idiot me, picks her up, and her parents are home, I meet them, walk her to the car, and go to the ballgame.

It was a normal date, had a good time, enjoyed her company. We ate at a sit down burger place afterwards.

I took her home, and walked her to the door, gave her a short kiss on the lips, a normal getting to know you just started dating, date.

I thought at first I had misread her, or maybe it was a Buna thing, but I asked her on a third date.

After the second date she made the remark that she had never had a boy open her car door before, and really had not had a guy open the door to the building for her before.

Which made me wonder.

The third date was to a restaurant, one of my favorite ones at the time.

It happened to be across the street from a moderate level hotel/motel, and she assumed that was out next stop, and made the remark. again, I am paraphrasing, " I brought some condoms if you don't have any. I still live at home and I can't take birth control without my parents finding out."

I explained once again,we had just started dating, and we were not to that point in out relationship, at which she was stunned.

We went to her house. I walked her to the door and explained that, I don't know, that she was in a better class than me, and this won't work in the long run.

I expected the waterworks, but I think she was stunned and I kissed her on the cheek and left before her father came out with a 12 gauge pump shotgun. ( You never know what might be said)

Now for years I there were stories about " Buna girls."

The late Mike Murphy who grew up in Silsbee used to tell about invites to parties and to get him to attend, they would tell him, " Buna girls will be there."

And the same stories were told in North Orange County.

So, when I was hired for the Buna Public Schools, I was not sure what to expect.

And my first day, there were a number of senior girls in shorter than normal skirts.  It took me a few weeks, but Buna girls were just like all other girls. There are wild one....there are sweet ones....Look,every town has girls and boys that way....

Now the story makes a turn....

A few years into teaching at Buna, we had "Meet the Teacher"  and one the the mother's who actually showed up.....Was that girl, now a women....And a parent. She acted like she did not know me. And I did the same. ( She may not have remembered.)  I certainly was not going to tell the kid, and really was not going to tell them, " Your Mom offered to give me a blow job."

A couple of years later, I had the sister.

Mom did not come that year to " Meet the Teacher...." ( It is why I strongly suggested you not show up for Meet the Teacher.)

I wonder why?
