Meanwhile in South Jasper County

So, it seems that a play, mostly geared to youth is presently being playing at a local religious facility.

This of course is Heavens's Gates/Hell's Flames.

It's been "carried over" as one person put it.

Well, I am sure.

The question is this.

Does God really want people to scare the hell outta you into heaven?

I know people who have seen the show, who later after they made a conversion at the conclusion of the play question if they were actually saved?

Several I know who were converted either made another conversion, or they question if they were actually "saved."

Let's discuss the theology behind the play.

In one scene there was a boy, whose father said that there is time to
attend to church and give your life to god. Then the boy and the
father died and they were both judged to hell, the father because he
hadn't given his life to Jesus and the boy simply because he believed his dad?!?!?

Is it really the boy's fault if he believed his father? Is the boy to
blame? Do we believe that God of Love will punish and torture this boy forever? The boy didn't even think he did anything wrong, because
his father told him to do so and without better judgement, the boy did
what almost anyone of us would have done in that age: he listened his
parents, in this case the father.

In the play I saw the boy was young, under what we would call, the "age of accountability."

We sending kids to hell now?

And the play also included a scene where were a non-believing mother
and a teenage girl, who had her name written on the book of life.
After they died, the Satan and his demons took the mother into the
depths of hell and torture. The girl sobbed "mother" for few times,
but when Jesus came, she suddenly started to smile and was happy.

How happy you going to be if you find out a loved one is going to hell forever...

Satan according to the Bible, but the play says, is not in hell, Satan is not the God of Hell, as we have carried from Greek Mythology. They had god's of Hades.  It is not Satan that throws people into hell Matt 10:28.

Look, the play I saw did not talk about grace, or love, or mercy.

This is just some of the problems I found with the play.

If your child is "saved" through one of these plays, you may want to sit down and talk to them about what on earth they think.

This "scare the hell" out of people...well, is that actual conversion?

Or a way to boost baptismal numbers? Get 'em dunked, put them on the roles, maybe they'll tithe?

Talk to your kids folks if you're concerned. See if they understand what they are doing.
