If you travel, this will be a change for you. Or perhaps, it will not?
The Texas Driver's Licenses will now need a star on the front, to show that the state, your card, is in compliance with TSA travel. ( Flights in America)
Beginning October 1, 2020, every air traveler 18 years of age and older
will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another acceptable
form of ID to fly within the United States.
This is part of that 9/11 business.
Texas started to issue the cards with the stars in October of 2016. The problem is, mine was issued in August 2016 and I am not due a new license until 2022.
According to the DPS-"Texans can come into any DPS office to get REAL ID licenses, before
their current licenses expire. If not already on file, Texans will need
to present proof of identity, U.S. citizenship or lawful presence in the
U.S., and state residency to obtain REAL ID compliant cards."
And then, the DPS says the following- " The cost for new IDs will be the same as current cost for a driver's license or identification card."
I don't know, I have a Merican Passport good through 2028. I'm not going to worry about going through that rigamarole to get a new Texas Driver's License.
You might think about getting either a U.S. Passport, or one of those Passport Cards ( Good for Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean Island nations, and Bermuda. )
Both are good for 10 years, and you never know when you want to travel outside of the country. Heck, you may need the U.S. Passport to be able to vote one day, you never know.
